There is no casting choice that is currently receiving more scrutiny than the lead role in James Gunn's upcoming Superman: Legacy. When Gunn announced, shortly after taking over DC Films, that the Superman film franchise would be ending its relationship with star Henry Cavill and relaunching the series with a look at Clark Kent's younger years, he caused a stir last year. It appears that Warner Bros. is finally prepared to bring in some actors to test out the outside-the-pants underwear after months of rumors and audition tapes.
According to Deadline, actors David Corenswet (Pearl), Tom Brittney (Grantchester), and Nicholas Hoult (Lots Of Stuff) are all reportedly reading for the role of the Big Blue Boy Scout. Screen tests for the movie have now been scheduled. That last name is particularly fascinating to the extent that past bits of hearsay drifted Hoult as a leader for the film's interpretation of wretched industrialist/bare man Lex Luthor.
This equivalent report — which, we can't resist the urge to note is essentially asking for one of Gunn's standard thing "Chill the damnation out if it's not too much trouble, Twitter reactions — additionally proposes that the chase after Lois Path is on too, with Emma Mackey, Rachel Brosnahan, and Phoebe Dynevor all evidently moving forward to test. The screen tests are said to take place in two weeks. DC Movies has, obviously, declined to remark on any of this.)
Superman: Even in the billion-dollar world of comic book movies, Legacy is a risky endeavor; The film, which Gunn wrote and directed, will serve as a thesis on his tenure as the new co-head of Warner Bros.' comic book movie empire and an opportunity for audiences and critics to evaluate it. The film is right now booked for a July 2025 delivery
